How do I quote a message in iMessage?

Got an unusual reply iMessage from someone. I see their reply (black on grey background), and then above it is my message that they're responding to in tiny blue letters on white background. Never saw that before. Sort of like my message to him was quoted back to me by him. How did he do that?
