I manage iTunes manually.
It might seem as though I'm being pedantic, but this is an important point: when I ask if you are manually managing the iPad (yes, I know I wrote iPod before), I'm specifically referring to how you add music to the iPad.
One can "Manually Manage" iTunes (your iTunes Library) but Sync or Manually Manage that music in your library to an iPad as a separate task. So what I mean is, are you manually managing the transfer of music (dragging the music) to the iPad, irrespective of how you manage your (iTunes) library?
I'll assume unless you tell me otherwise that you manually managing the transfer of music to the iPad.
If I understand you correctly, I think that you have edited an existing song to increase the Bit Rate. In other words, you have re-ripped the CD with a higher Bit Rate and replaced the existing files for the songs with those higher rate songs. Is that correct?
If so, then the previous copy of a song has been replaced with the newer, higher Bit Rate version. In other words, the same file for a song, but now at a higher Bit Rate. This is exactly what iTunes will do if you re-rip the CD*.
If so, since you are Manually Managing your iPad, you would need to manually delete the existing songs from the iPad and then drag the replacement ones onto it. Until you do that, iTunes will work on the basis that the song is already on your iPad.
* So that you have a better understanding of why I wrote it that way:
- if you use iTunes to convert a song to another format (i.e. turn an AAC file into an MP3 file), then iTunes will make a second copy. That is, the original version and the new copy
- but if you re-rip a CD, using the same album details as the original (which is what iTunes will do) iTunes will replace the original version with the new version. There is no additional "copy". In this case, you need to remove the old version of the song from the iPad before adding the new one
- if you use Sync to manage the iPad, iTunes will, to the best of my knowledge, remove the old version and replace it with the new one. In other words, it does the messy stuff for you, rather than you having to do it
