Credit card fail with Apple Pay with no reason . Mastercard Also the monthly subscription which is due has just vanished

Thank you Jeff for your time. I have checked payments as suggested and previous payment was missed too. It still doesn’t explain why, as there was no intervention from me. I didn’t cancel. However I will re subscribe with a new payment method. And all will be well
I received an email advising the due iCloud subscription could not be made as the linked credit card had failed The iCloud subscription had disappeared from the list and the card had failed against it.

Please contact Apple Support. They’ll be able to see past subscriptions and see if any billing attempts were missed or successful.

How is your MasterCard failing? Are you trying to add it to your Wallet app, complete a transaction or what exactly?
The linked credit card is an Apple Card Mastercard credit card? Is that correct?
The Mastercard is issued by my bank and has been used on this subscription for a long time . I have checked with the bank and there are no issues . It is just odd that the iCloud sub has now vanished
Could there be some attempt to scam by getting me to change card ? Seems unlikely but I am mystified
I did get an Apple email saying my card had been declined . Genuine? It looked OK
