macos sonoma, prevent sudden disappearance of windows or zoom in a window

I will be. working in an app. or. a browser and suddenly all screens/windows disappear (and desk top takes over screen) . Can get them back easily by clicking on desk top. It is. just VERY irritating. Also sudden. zoom to huge print in the browser. Have to reset the zoom under 'view'

iMac 24″, macOS 14.7

What Barney said. This is the setting that you need to change. Switch from Always to "Only in Stage Manager". And, if you are like most users, turn Stage Manager off. IMO it does not help at all, it kind of reduces the Mac to a glorified iPad - not even that. Even the iPad can have more than one window open at once.
