iPad 7th Gen boot loop and recovery mode fails with 4013 Error

Hi all,

Just wanted to ask the helpful Apple Community. I have a IPAD 7th Generation for my daughter and has been stuck on a Boot Loop post IOS Update. I am suspecting this has to do with Low Storage space when the OS cannot boot up. Now I have tried several steps to make this work but of not avail. Currently this is in a Boot Loop but can be placed into Recovery Mode. Would not go into DFU mode (no matter how many times I have tried).

  1. Used several USB A and USB C cables with the IPAD to help restore from a MAC or Windows but give a 4013 error
  2. Using either the restore or update function on iTunes or Finder has the same result
  3. DFU mode does not work > tried holding the power and home button for 5 seconds and then only the home button for 10 seconds - Just loops back into recovery mode
  4. Tried several times to restore the device, just to check if it works successfully
  5. Not minding about the data, I just need the device to boot up.

Assuming I have tried all the necessary steps to get this going but it has not worked at all. The IPAD has no physical or water damage. The Lightning Port is also clean and the IPAD is indeed connecting to the MAC and Windows Device. My question is whether if Apple can help in this case, perhaps reinstall the OS in a different method. Otherwise it is an expensive paper weight at this time. Thank you.

First, perhaps understand the Apple Support Community is a user-to-user technical forum. Contributors here are all end-users, just like you. Other than the site Moderators, Apple neither monitor nor participate here. As such, if you hope to reach Apple through these forums, you will be disappointed.

You’ll find guidance for troubleshooting error #4013 here:

If you continue to experience difficulties, you might be well advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page.

Alternatively, if you have access to another Apple device, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:
