iPhone 14 links open App Store for installed apps

I'm using an iphone 14 which is currently on ios 18.2.1 and I have had this frustrating problem ever since i switched from my iphone 11 to the iphone 14. when I click on a link, for example a google maps link, this link sends me to app store to the google maps page. when I press open it sends me to the home page on the app but not the location as if I didn't click on the link a few seconds ago. or when I click on a texted link from walmart on a grocery pick up order it also takes me to the app store when i already have the app on my phone. When i click on open it opens the walmart app but it makes me log into my account again despite already being logged into my account if i just open up the app on my phone. I want to use the app that I had downloaded already WITHOUT being sent to app store. it's driving me insane and I had this problem ever since i've had the iphone 14. Please don't tell me to restart my phone - that has been done MULTIPLE times. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled both the google maps and the walmart app which didn't resolve it either. I need an actual solution. I've google searched and found some promising suggestions but when I follow their instructions my menus aren't the same as theirs. please help me!

The link in the Walmart app is explicitly referencing google maps. Check to make sure google maps is the default instead of Apple Maps on your phone.

This should be in Settings>Apps>Maps (I believe... I can't test directly because I don't have a 3rd party maps app installed).

I'm sorry, but that was not at all helpful. 1. walmart isn't opening maps. That was a 2nd example of trying to open an app that already exists on my phone but when I clink on a texted link from them instead of it opening the app on my phone (as it used to do on my iphone 11) it asked to open the app store. When I do that it shows the walmart app and the "Open" option. when it does that it opens up the walmart app but i'm not logged into my account so I have to log in again. But if I close that out and just open the app on my phone I am still logged into my account on the app. 2. The google map issue is when i search in google and find something i want to open in google maps. It does the same thing.. instead of it opening the goole maps app on my phone (as it used to do on my iphone 11) it asked to open the app store. When I do that it shows the google maps app and the "Open" option. When i click open it just opens a blank google maps page and doesn't auto populate the location selected from the google page.
