Mac search function not working well

Hi

Several OSs ago, Mac OS search ability diminished and Sequoia continues that on both my MB Pro and Mac mini.

Problematic in general, searching documents is personally frustrating and difficult.

Sometimes something can be found, sometimes using quotes can help, other times not.

Because I backup everything, sometimes what I search for will pop up in the backup copies.

Neither Spotlight nor a search in a Finder window are reliable.

Sometimes, removing a folder from Spotlight and returning it to force a re-scan helps and sometimes not.

Apple should do something about it.

I’ve never seen any changes or really had any problems with the Spotlight search capabilities. I have seen on these forums where companies seem to produce malformed metadata importers that hangs Spotlight indexing (but never seen that myself).

In the process of testing out ways to re-index Spotlight I have rebuilt my index more often than most which could be why I don’t see any problems.

If it is missing results, it could be something corrupting the index or causing the indexing process to hang.
