The spammer lied about the message, and the spammer lied about the sending number, too.


Lots of that going around.


You can filter messages from unknown senders: Block, filter, and report messages on iPhone - Apple Support


Another option is to install an app such as Bouncer, which can be used to filter spam, surveys, push polls, political messages, and other forms of dreck.
