This used to be one of my favourite settings as I write a lot of notes and messages but ever since IOS 18 is just hangs mid sentence 95% of the time. Not a connection issue.
Also is there anyway I can get back to ISO 17?

Wondering if you have tried the more recent iOS 18 versions ... there have been quite a few updates. The latest version is iOS 18.3. More info.: About iOS 18 Updates - Apple Support (NB: iOS18.3 also turns on Apple Intelligence (AI) if not turned off previously)
Note: If you choose to update, please remember it is wise to back-up your iPhone first
Else: If you haven't tried it: Restarting a device often helps restore order if something is not working as expected.

No. Sorry. Seems iPhones can only be updated in the current version, or upgraded on release of a new version
We do have the choice whether to upgrade to a new version right away, and enjoy access to the new features,
or
to wait for a few updates to be released, so there's time for more bug-fixes and security updates to be in place.

Thanks very much for your detailed reply. I have updated as soon as releases come out. IOS 17 dictation woerked very well... Something I learnt never to do after using Apple fror 24+ yrs. Always wait at least 6m to get the bugs get fixed (the contra would be always update when it's security downloads). I was forced to update to IOS18 when in restore mode...
Another odd thing is ater being able to type "and" on an iphone for the last 10 yrs, every time (99%) it now spells "amd" and I have to change it, not sure what the margin for error and sensitivity is around each character on the k/board but something has changed because the handset has not and I never had a problem typing "and" before....
Bardonicloud ~ Your iPhone XS could be >6 years old and the long process of applying an iOS update to an iPhone with a weak, aging battery can be the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back." So...
Does your iPhone XS still have its original battery?
And what's the Maximum Capacity % here?...
