Fixing iCloud for Windows sync issues on Windows 11
Since
some time in November I have been collecting posts about PC &
iCloud problems. These are ones which seem to help a few people. I
still have no idea what the real problem is ! I think it appeared
after a W11 update as far as I am concerned.

A few tips I found out along the way:
- Just because
- the drive seems stuck, doesn't mean it is stuck. Sometimes iCloud
- will be working in the background not using a lot of the computer's
- power. It took me 8-12 hours to go through it all and I did so
- multiple times because of the aforementioned, because I didn't know
- what the problem was (so I thought iCloud just got stuck, and it was
- a problem of the software). If you can, let your computer be open
- overnight especially if you have a lot of GB laying around
- Force
- closing iCloud because you think it is stuck may lead to a disaster
- - for me it uploaded all my folders which were empty without any
- order, so if you can, try not to force close iCloud with Task
- Manager (it was a mess to clean up)
- If you hold
- SHIFT, mark
- all the folders you want to
- backup, press RIGHT CLICK,
- and click on PROPERTIES,
- it'll show you how many files are actually present. If your iCloud
- finds too many files (for me it found 130.000+ while there were
- actually only around 90.000), there might be an issue (which might
- be the one I was having with the authorized by admin files).

for Windows (11 23H2+) Install Media Feature Pack Error
First of all, it wouldn't be unreasonable to
go over all the previous tips:
- Control
- Panel (Open "This PC" and click "Up"/press
- ALT+Up arrow to find the link to Control Panel) -> Programs and
- Features -> Turn Windows Features On/Off where you should turn
- off Media Features and press Ok. After the changes have been applied
- return to Turn Windows Features On/Off and turn the Media Features
- on. A reboot may be required to apply some of this changes.
- Check that the following items are
- installed (install missing):
Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer
(free) and/or HEVC
Video Extensions (paid)
3. Open Settings App -> System ->
Optional Features -> Add Optional Feature where you should select
Windows Media Player Legacy (App) and proceed to download and
install.
You don't have to reboot after steps 2 and
3. Just launch the iCloud setup again and wait for it to complete
(asking you to reboot). Done!

【As of 2024.12.17】 iCloud for Windows Not Functioning
Thank you for your post. I expanded on your steps to resolve and was able to get my iCloud to sync on Windows 11. I do not know which of these was the fix but here is what I did:
- Changed Background app permissions to Always: Under Apps > Installed apps > iCloud - I changed the Background app permissions "Let this app run in the background" to "Always."
- Reset - I used your steps to reset the app.
- Original iCloud ID - I used my original xxxxx@mac.com iCloud ID that is in my Apple Settings under Apple Account. I was using my phone number and my alias @me.com previously.
Once I went through the setup, it is showing "Updating" and I am able see my photos in Microsoft Photos and folders in Windows Explorer. I am waiting on the complete sync to see if my files are there but so far, all the folders look correct.

iCloud login loop on Windows 11
Hey!
I've had a similar issue, the app completely
broke and after logging in, it was just spinning forever.
After resetting data and restarting the app
and my computer a couple of times I managed to get it to log in
properly, but then it wasn't syncing with the cloud, and I couldn't
access my drive, photos, and passwords on my Windows 11 PC.
What fixed it for me, was:
- Uninstall
- the microsoft store version of iCloud.
- Find an
- older "Traditional Installer" version of the app, not the
- microsoft store one and install it (I installed version 7.21.0.23 of
- iCloud for Windows with and installer I found on TheAppleWiki).
- After
- installing, it will ask to restart your PC, do that.
- After
- restarting, you can log in, it should work fine from there, open up
- the app and start syncing your stuff.
- Now, you're
- half done, you want to install the microsoft store version of iCloud
- on top of the one you just downloaded and installed.
- When installed, it will ask you to log
- in again, and now it will log in fine, and start syncing your stuff.
The only thing I found, is that iCloud
Photos don't seem to be syncing properly (or just very slow?), and
they don't appear for me but the drive and passwords both sync fine,
I've also did more testing with Passwords and Keychain and it should
work.
I'm looking forward to hearing back from you
and see if it works for others too.
