HP Scan does not work on a MacBook Air M3

“HP Scan” does not work on a MacBook Air M3 and with multifunctional printer HP Laserjet Pro color MFP

276nw. On a MacMini with M1 - everything works as it should.

Description:

The latest software from HP Support page has been installed for this printer on the MacBook Air M3.

("Base Driver" and "HP Scan").

The installation of the printer HP Laserjet Pro color MFP 276nw on the MacBook M3 (MacOs 15.3) then only provides the print function, not a scan function. "HP Scan" and also "Image Capture" do not show an installed scanner.

When I add the printer on the MacBook M3 manually using the System Preferences and "Add Printer, Scanner or Fax", and use "Standard" as the printer type, a printer without scan function is created with the driver "HP Laserjet Pro colorMFP M276" and the driver version 10.4. Neither "HP Scan" nor "Digital Images" indicate an installed scanner.

When I use "IP" instead of the "Standard" method and enter the IP address of the printer, the printer is detected, and the driver "HPLaserjet Pro colorMFP 276nw-Airprint" with version number 4.0 is used. A

button "Open scanner" appears in this newly created printer configuration, but no scanner is found, same as with "Standard".

The installation procedure using the HP support page on a MacMini with M1 is successful.

Here, a printer including the scan function with the driver "HP Laserjet Pro colorMFP M276"

and the driver version 10.4 is created directly. And "HP Scan" nor "Digital Images" also show the installed scanner and Scan also works fine.

Is there a driver problem?

Does anyonehave any advice? Thank you.

I have the same issue with my HP LaserJet CM1415fnw on my MacBook Pro 16'' with M4 Pro and macOS 15.3.1.

"HP Scan" and "Digital Images" cannot find any Scan device via Bonjour but VueScan does (mDNS).

(Local network access is enabled for HP Scan)

I had difficulties getting my Canon printer to work with my iMac, and slowly discovered that it was an OS problem. My iMac is a 12 year old using Catalina, but a month later, I connected the printer to my 2017 MacBook via the USB lead, and voila! it worked. As soon as they were connected, the System Preferences 'Printer and Scanner' side bar even recognised the printer.

As a result, I can now scan, print or copy. If you are not too fussy about using the AirPrint facility,(I certainly wasn't.) try doing what I did. Hopefully, that could help.
