Problems selecting an external Time Machine volume (Monterey 12.7.4)

I tried multiple times to select a Time Machine backup volume using System Preferences>Time Machine>Select Disk. For some reason my newly created (APFS) Time Machine volume was not listed. I deleted and recreated the Time Machine volume several times using the Terminal command listed below. The command executed correctly but I was never prompted to add a new Time Machine version.

I eventually logged into to another (administrator) account after I had created the volume using my own (administrator) account. This time, I received a notification to set up a new Time Machine volume. After selecting that option everything seemed to work as expected.

diskutil apfs addvolume diskn APFSX "Time Machine-1" -quota 160g -role T -passphrase xxx -passphrasehint yyy

N.B.: diskn, volume name, quota size, xxx, and yyy have to be replaced with appropriate values
