Question about Logic Pro Virtual Out Problem

I’ve just installed Ableton Live 12 on my MB Air and have successfully been able to connect it to Logic by using the Logic Pro Virtual Out for MIDI and Blackhole (shareware app) for audio.

The setup works fine in most respects except that Logic will not output the MIDI message for Record over the Virtual Out. Stop, Start, Continue, Song Position Pointer (SPP)and Clock messages all work fine. I have confirmed this using the Snoize MIDI Monitor. This means that although I can arm MIDI tracks in Live for recording, I cannot start recording MIDI clips there.

Using an External MIDI track in Logic, I can record the MIDI inside Logic rather than in Live. By creating an Audio track in Logic I can hear the audio returned over Blackhole from Live before recording, during MIDI recording and during MIDI playback.

When I press Start, the MIDI monitor shows Logic sending out Start and SPP messages to Live as it should. When I press Record, the MIDI monitor shows Start and SPP messages but NOT the Record message. Is there a reason that message is missing, perhaps some filtering in Logic's preferences, or is it a limitation of using Virtual Out?

Thanks in advance.
