'cursoruiviewservice' Not Responding and Causing Lag on MacBook Air and causing MacBook to kernel panic and shutdown

Hi everyone,

I've noticed that the "cursoruiviewservice" process in Activity Monitor is becoming 'not responding' and causing significant lag on my MacBook Air, especially when typing and switching between upper and lower case letters.

I have tried restarting the MacBook and it disappears but comes back after a while.

I read in another thread that this is related to Microsoft office installed on the MacBook.

Solution: So I opened login items in Mac Settings and turned-off allow in background for Microsoft AutoUpdate and Microsoft office licensing.

Tada i have been using the Macbook for 3-4 days and cursoruiviewservice has not gone into not responding once. The process takes considerably way less memory than it used to when it went into the not responding case previously. Previously cursoruiviewservice used to be on the top 3 places in the activity monitor window taking up much memory(around 200mb). Now it takes up around 11mb.

Wanted to share this solution so it could benefit all. Also Microsoft could work on that bug.

Hi escroc,

When this process encounters a "Not Responding" error, it significantly burdens the macOS system, making even typing difficult. A quick search on Google, X.com, Reddit, and discussions.apple.com (some relevant links are below) clearly shows that this is a serious issue. Unfortunately, I don’t believe the solution you suggested will be effective. Moreover, the error occurs inconsistently—sometimes not appearing for 9–10 days, while at other times, it happens within 1–2 hours. Based on my research, the most reasonable explanation for the cause of this issue seems to be leaving Caps Lock enabled or having text selected in an application but of course I am not sure.

From what I’ve observed, this issue also appears on MacBook Pros with M4 chips. Hopefully, Apple will acknowledge it at some point. I’ve reported this problem to the engineers multiple times, yet instead of conducting their own research, they expected me to stop using my computer and focus extensively on troubleshooting. I even tried some of their suggested solutions—such as performing a clean install—not just once, but two or three times. They also requested logs, which I provided, but the issue remains unresolved.
