archive Apple text messages?

I would like to archive (as in, create a file containing) ALL my text messages currently stored in iCloud. I understand how I can download individual ones, but I want to, say, select a slew of conversations and dump all of them to a file. What are my options? Obviously, one option for preserving messages is just to buy more iCloud space.
