There was such a problem: the camera control button starts only when you double-click, regardless of what is in the settings. In the settings, I set the launch by a single click, but if I press it once, it says "Click again to open camera".
Can you tell me how to solve it? Rebooting doesn't help, I don't want to reset all the data and I can't (a lot of important ones)

It's working exactly as I suggested it should on my iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Arguing with only other users on a user to user only forum, get's you nowhere. I have two iPhone's. 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. Both work as Jeff Donald, more clearly described and I confirmed the same on my phones. There are two people in my office with 16 model phones. They both do the same.

Personally, I really don't think Apple intended for a single click to open the camera when the screen is locked on an iPhone. Imagine how many people may accidentally tap the Capture Button, if for example, they carry their phone in a pocket, who might inadvertently open the camera, which would NOT be good.

It is a bit confusing, but if your screen is locked and you tap the Camera Control button, you will be told to tap it again. But if your screen is unlocked on your home page, taping the Camera Control button once (if you have it set to open on one tap) will open the Camera. I'm sure this is by design. Think about how many times someone might accidentally tap the Camera Control button when their screen is locked and the camera opens when they didn't really want the camera to open. So, the behavior you're seeing is correct.
The thing is that on the locked screen, on the unlocked one, the same thing. It's always like that, no matter where I am: an application, a desktop or a YouTube, for example.
There is a one-time in the settings, exactly, I checked. If you change to a double click and immediately to a single click, it works as it should for a second, then this bug again
No, the behaviour he's seeing is not correct. I have this exact issue too on a brand new iPhone 16 Pro Max. I have another 16 Pro Max and I only need to click once on the Camera Control button for it to bring up the camera, even when the screen is asleep. On this phone I have to click twice whether the screen is asleep or alive. On the new device this just doesn't work.
Is the confusion over when the iPhone is asleep, locked or at Home Screen?

Exactly how it works on my iPhone and clearly exactly how Apple intended it to work.
I’m just by chance at an Apple Retail Store and I checked a handful of iPhones on display and they are all operating as I described. I’ll try to ask one of the Genius’ if I can get one between appointments.

The behavior is consistent. If the iPhone is asleep (black or dimmed screen), Camera Control set for one click and one click is required to wake and Lock Screen to appear. Another single click enters camera mode.
If I switch from one click to double click, a double click is required to wake and Lock Screen to appear. It requires another double click to enter camera mode.
Their operation is consistent. I would check the iPhone that you think is correct for settings disabling sleep or extending Lock Screen.
One of the geniuses also confirmed operation of my iPhone.
I found a solution to the problem. I had to reset the phone settings.
No, not a data reset, namely a reset of the settings - quickly reconfigured everything (half an hour now) and everything is ready, it works perfectly!
