How to remove photo selection thumbnails at the bottom of displayed photos on iPhone

When I display a photo on my iPhone (iOS18), at the bottom of it are tiny icons of many pictures in my library that I can select. I DON'T WANT THAT DISPLAY. I JUST want the picture I selected to be displayed. How do I get rid of that tiny row of picture icons at the bottom???

You're right-- there's a "Preview" version that gives you access to editing controls, and there's a "Full Screen" mode for looking at the pretty pictures. Of course, you have to have both and, as you said, tapping is how you toggle between the two views.

I, too, get irritated by the filmstrip and buttons showing up when I just want to scroll through pictures! If I can slide my finger perfectly horizontally, then the scroll is smooth and the pictures are full screen and lovely. But an accidental tap brings up the filmstrip! I think it's mostly keeping my finger down in the scroll long enough for the phone to know I'm not tapping.

I think the answer to your question is that you have to be extra careful not to let Photos think that you are tapping rather than scrolling. And then bite your tongue to avoid offending others in the room when it slips up.

You shouldn't let this drive you crazy. Most people use Photos' Edit Markup to do this:

Putting the date on a picture could be a good feature--but I see lots of complications. Where do you want the date on the picture? At the top, hiding some of the picture, or somewhere else hiding another part? In the exact middle of the picture? Or do you want the picture to be smaller than full screen, with the date in a white margin at the top? I'm guessing different people might want different things. Markup lets you choose all these things, but it means you have to do it for each picture.

There may be 3rd party apps that could help, but I'm not sure.

If you can think of something that would satisfy lots of people, and make no one angry, you can make suggestion here:

This definitely makes the little icons go away when wanting to view just a single photo although the date on the top of the single photo disappears, I’m trying to figure this out forever. It’s driving me crazy I just wanna take a screenshot of a photo I have, but show the date that appears on the top of that single photo and when Iclick on it to get rid of the little photo icons scrolling across the bottom, the date displayed on the top of the single photo disappears. If anyone out there knows how to get the icon of photos off but still keep the original date on top that would be great and appreciate y’all thank you and God bless.
