Muting and adjusting volume of imported videos on Keynote app

There’s no way to mute or adjust audio volume in ipados or ios version of the keynote app.

I can only do that when recording my own audio. is this not crazy ?

You're right - I'd never noticed this before.

Keynote on MacOS does have volume/mute controls for imported videos, but it does seem to be missing on iOS.

Seems like an oversight to me. Feedback - Keynote for iOS and iPadOS - Apple would be the next port of call, I think.
