Ios 18.3.2 battery Drain on iPhone 16 pro

i just got my 16 pro it has 6 cycles in it and last week I charged it to 85% every day and I put it down with 38-40% at night. 2-3 days ago I updated to iOS 18.3.2 and ever since then my battery has been draining like crazy doing the same things on my phone that I did last week my battery drains like 2 times faster than it did before. How is this happen on a new flagship phone ?

iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 18

Thanks for the answer but it’s not about charging my phone to 100% why would I charge it to 100 if I don’t use it that much it’s less than a 2 week old phone and I shouldn’t be seeing battery drain like this. Before updating to 18.3.2 everything was normal no battery drain the phone was working perfectly but after the update it drains like crazy while doing the same tasks.

I see no reason to micromanage charging on your iPhone. I charge my iPhone using Optimized Battery Charging (Settings > Battery > Battery Health > Optimized Battery Charging). Then my phone goes on its charger when I go to bed at night and stays there all night EVERY night. I awaken to a fully charged phone, which is also fully backed up nightly. I've now owned my 16 Pro Max since the official launch day last September. My Battery Health after 7 months is still 100%.

I also perform a Forced Restart on my iPhone after EVERY iOS update and I am not, nor have I ever had battery drain after ANY iOS update. Did you do this on your iPhone --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

Do that now and then remember the procedure and do it after ALL iOS updates.

The battery drain you are experiencing is likely due to an app update and nothing to do with iOS 18.3.2. App updates in the background by default far more often than any iOS update and some of those app updates have ben seen to use more background processes on your phone, draining the battery, even when not in use.

Go to Settings > Battery, and scroll down to see the apps that have use the most battery in the last 24 hours. Meta has had some disastrous updates with a battery draining problem that affects multiple devices and OS versions. If fact the Google Support forums are flooded with the same battery draining complaint on Android devices as well. Most Meta apps have been updated 10 times in just the last month in an attempt to fix bugs and you would likely not even know it.

I agree to Force Restart your phone after an iOS update and don't micromanage your charging. Just turn on Optimized Charging and charge your phone all night, every night. If you never let it charge to 100%, it will never be able to recalibrate. Optimized Charging will learn your charging habits when done on a regular basis and only charge to 80%, until right before you normally take it off the charger will it will charge to the full 100%.

Thank You! I just did the force restart thing I’ll wait a day or so see if it gets better. If not then I’ll schedule a service at the apple store bc it’s abnormal how fast my battery drains especially on a 2 week old phone.

You're welcome. I hope hearing from enough of us senior members of this forum that you don't need to micromanage your iPhone charging and that charging, using Optimized Battery charging is the way to go will help you as well.

Hello!

Why don’t you charge it to 100% every night? No wonder it’s draining fast. You don’t fully charge it. That’s like filling the gas tank of your car 3/4 full, then wondering why it becomes empty so soon.

Thanks for the reply. What is the Maximum Capacity of your device’s battery? Please go to: Settings > Battery > Battery Health and Charging.

Also, I want to reiterate that you check out this User Tip. It will tell you why your battery may not last as long after the update.

Force Restarting now is just fine and is a good first step for any issues you encounter by clearing cache files. If you have not done it before, it may take a couple of attempts to get the speed a sequence of the key presses correct and the last step of holding the side button until the Apple logo appears could take up to 15 seconds. Ignore anything else you see on the screen during that time while holding the side button until you see the Apple Logo.

  1. Press and quickly release the volume up button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume down button.
  3. Press and hold the side button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the side button.

You did not damage your battery by letting it charge to 100%. Depending on the apps you have installed, you should get all day battery life, of course it also depends on usage. You can post a screenshot of the apps that are using the battery by going to Settings > Battery, and scroll down to reveal the apps using the most battery in the last 24 hours. Meta apps have been seen to be problematic on all devices, and have been seen to consume the battery by using Background Processes, even when the app is not being used.
