If you enter the wrong passcode too many times, the phone will enter a security lockout state from which the only way back in is to reset it and wipe all of the data on it.

I hope you were making iCloud backups and/or synchronizing data to iCloud, because if you are forced to wipe the phone, any data that existed only on the phone will be gone.
