Finally getting AirPods Pro Gen 2 working in Transparency mode.

Like others in this forum, I had been having recurrent problems with Transparency Mode, and Apple replaced the AirPods Pro at their expense 4 times but I figured there HAD to be a settings change that would help in the long run.

I did a deep dive Into the Settings and found a way to make them work like they always were capable of. The steps are:

Go to “Settings” and choose “Accessibility”.

Go all the way down to “Audio and Visual” and select it.

Go to “Headphone Accommodations” and turn it on.

DO NOT USE A CUSTOM AUDIO SETUP OR AUDIOGRAM!

Under the section “Tune Audio For”, DO NOT CHOOSE AUDIOGRAM.

Instead click on each of “Balanced Tone”, Vocal Range” and Brightness” and for each one push the slider all the way to the right.

it is important to understand that even if you have your AirPods Pro on “Transparency Mode” in settings, YOU MUST flip down “Control Panel”, open “Headphone Accommodations” and select “Transparency

”Mode”.

Be prepared for a big surprise - the boost in gain is striking and you will see why these can be used as hearing aids for those of us with mild-moderate hearing loss.

With time you can play with the three features of “Tune Audio For” and customize the sound somewhat. There are several adjustments you can make play with in Control Panel too. Remember it is VITAL you go into Control Panel to activate Transparency Mode.

There is a big “However” I must mention. Keep the AirPods Pro clean as there are numerous microphones that tailor the sound and feedback. If you are on your phone and jumping back and forth between applications and getting notifications, your AirPods Pro can jump out of Transparency Mode. Just swipe down to get back into Control Panel and click Transparency Mode back on.

I hope this helps many out there who have been disappointed with Transparency Mode like I have. One owner I showed this to called it “life changing”. This really helps me at movies and concerts. AirPods Pro can be quirky but deserve their recent approval by the US FDA as hearing aids.

Enjoy!
