Safari Security Check scam

I keep getting this page opening in my browser. While it's most likely some sort of scam, I'm wondering if it's something more serious - like an indication of some malware. Anyone have any information on this. I always just close the browser tab without clicking on anything.

That is not a macOS /or Safari check—just does not work that way.

Is this while you are using Safari...? It seems some unwanted popup adware/malware.

you do not say what you are doing when it pops up or what website you are on when it pops up...?

see if you can eliminate in your Safari>Settings

It just happened. I was on Facebook in Safari browser. I clicked on a link in a comment on a post: https://insightflowmedia.com/rachel-maddow-was-restless.../ and the "security check" page opened.

This was its url: https://gecupot.sbs/l2s/me/index.php?lpkey=17fc42bd6592313a72&lddomain=gecupot.sbs&pbid=4160&t1=ALL&t2=me&t3=273&t4=Social&t5=25397995&clickid=c4b43use26jghi4035&language=en-GB&uclick=use2a4g5bl&uclickhash=use2a4g5bl-use26jghi4-qdvr-cife-370-qd15-qdj2-ca629c

Nothing in Safari settings which seems related to this.

Neither of these links opened up for me in Safari.

I'm wondering what's going on with Safari. This morning a link on Facebook produced a popup "install flash player" over the page it was supposed to open. I tried the same link in DuckDuckGo and the page opened clean.

I would question your first line of good computing— and not to be clicking links through FaceBook. It is a known cesspool of scams/spoofing/adware/malware...

Use the browser that works better for you and your habit.

if you think you have an ongoing issue with Safari, or the macOS—
