Touch ID stopped working on iPhone SE running iOS 18.3.2

My touch ID stopped working. IOS 18.3.2 Iphone SE 5

When I first unlock my iphone se it now immediately reqests the passcode no chance for touch ID. When I go into the IPhone and try to add a fingerprint or any other system type of change it requires TouchID, which I can't do. It does request a passcode to get into some settings but it still requires touch ID to change any settings. Am I missing a touch iD required setting somewhere else on my iphone?

Also sounds like you have Stolen Device Protection turned on. If your phone does not recognise your location as a familiar location you will be in a catch22 situation.

Try several times with touch ID and if it does not eventually ask for passcode then your location is not recognised.

If you are at home and it still doesn't recognise the location then you will have to reset the phone in recovery mode using a computer.

Add some more prints, maybe even one for a family member, and ensure Stolen Device Protection is set to " Away from familiar locations" and not "always" if you want to avoid lockouts if your prints change a tad. Eg wet, injured, greasy fingers.

You need to keep all your location services turned on in order to let the phone work out your familiar locations.

Try and troubleshoot this issue step by step:

1. Clean the Touch ID Sensor:

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the Touch ID sensor and your finger. Ensure both are dry and free of dirt or moisture.

2. Restart Your iPhone:

  • Press and hold the Power button until the slider appears, then slide to power off. Turn it back on after a few seconds.

3. Check for iOS Updates:

  • Go to Settings ➡️ General ➡️ Software Update and ensure you're running the latest version of iOS for your device.

4. Reset Touch ID Settings:

  • If possible, go to Settings ➡️ Touch ID & Passcode.
  • Delete all existing fingerprints by tapping each one and selecting "Delete Fingerprint."
  • Try adding a new fingerprint. If this step requires Touch ID and you can't proceed, skip to the next step.

5. Reset All Settings:

  • Go to Settings ➡️ General ➡️ Transfer or Reset iPhone ➡️ Reset ➡️ Reset All Settings.
  • This won't delete your data but will reset system settings, which might resolve the issue.

6. Contact Apple Support:

  • If none of the above works, the issue might be hardware-related. You can 👉 Official Apple Support or visit an Apple Store for further assistance.
