Can no longer scan from HP Officejet 5746

I have lost the ability to scan from my printer to my iMac. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer. Any suggestions? Thank you

I am going to assume that this occurred after an OS upgrade or update. Whenever we install an operating system upgrade or some OS updates, printers and scanners will often stop working. Then a new OS compliant scanning software must be installed for the scanner. What you can do is to thoroughly check the HP web site for updated compliant software that works. If none is available, then you should ask when it will be released. If that doesn't work, you can try scanning using Apple's Image Capture app. It will scan, but is not full featured. Another alternative is to download and try the full featured scanner software from VueScan. You can try it for free. It will show a watermark until you purchase it. I bought it and can recommend it. I have no association with VueScan. Finally, you should know that the print function and the scan function require completely different software updates. Good luck.

While your device may be both a printer and scanner in one box, the printer has nothing to do with scanning. You need an ICA driver for the scanner. HP has some sort of setup app you use to get all the necessary software (for both parts, I assume). If it doesn’t install an ICA driver to scan directly with Image Capture and Preview, then it says it has an app to handle all printing, scanning, and copying.
