Luna display iMac and Mac mini

Wondering if an Mac mini M4, not yet purchased, can connect to an "old" iMac?

iMac ... (rent 5K, 27-inch, late 2015) running os Monterey V12.7.6

iMac has 4 usb slots, NOT type C a thunderbolt video slot. I have an Apple thunderbolt to HDMI cable already.

question will a Luna Display dongle work with this setup?

Just how difficult is it and what dongle would I use as the HDMI dongles seem to be for PC only??

Secondary would I be have access to iMac hdd?

screen clarity is great and the iMac has 2Tb of space !

You need a real external display, using an old Mac with Luna Display on an M4 MM simply will not work and if somehow you were able to get it to work the performance would be so poor you would not be happy. Read what Luna say about it's performance!

External displays are pretty inexpensive, dead reliable and simple to setup not like a software solution. You can buy an external display for <$100 and for a very good quality 27" 4K display in the $300 range.

So just research what external display is right for your needs, get a MM with a minimum of 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD and a 27" 4K display and for less than $1400 you will have a VERY nice solution.

Also, if you intend to migrate from your old Mac to the new MM simply follow the steps in Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant
