Unable to update my iPhone 6s to iOS 13 for downloading apps

Plus to iOS 13

Every time I try and download an app from the App Store it tells me that I need to update my iOS to at least 13 or higher to use this app?? But when I check for updates it tells me my iPhone is up to date. Please help, this is my first iPhone and so far I’m not too impressed. Thinking of going back to my Samsung where things just make sense?? Please help

Perhaps my earlier reply to your second post on this exact

topic, was nearest to possible answer(s.) Yet still when you

fail to correctly identify your hardware, it's harder to guess!

Duplicate-like threads here always are weeded-out in ASC.

While mine had significant detailed information too. Oh well!

If it says you are up to date with iOS 12.5.7, then you don't have a 6S, you have a 6 or 6 plus.

To check which phone you have go to Settings > General > About

• If you have an iPhone 6 or 6+, the highest you can update to is 12.5.7

• If you have an iPhone 6S, you can update to 15.8.3

this is my first iPhone and so far I’m not too impressed

I would imagine not, the iPhone 6 & 6+ are over 9 years old, that's an antique in smartphone years.

"Over 9 years old" is an understatement.

MacTracker indicates that Apple introduced the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in September 2014. That's about ten and a half years ago!

Those phones only have 1 GB of RAM. All iPhones that can run anything higher than iOS 12 have at least 2 GB of RAM. All iPhones that can run the current version of iOS, iOS 18, have at least 3 GB of RAM – and those are the "stragglers" that probably barely made the cut. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus also lack a Neural Engine. All iPhones that can run iOS 16 or higher have one of those.

If the OP wants to evaluate whether the iPhone platform is any good, they should evaluate the iPhone 16-series phones, not the outdated iPhone 6-series ones. The 16-series phones can run the latest version of iOS (iOS 18) and come with enough RAM (8 GB) to let them to support Apple Intelligence.

I used the date they were discontinued which was Sept 2016, about 9 years ago.
I'm guessing th OP had no idea what they were buying and someone scammed them into buying a very outdated phone.
Yes I'm well aware of the specs of those devices.

The ten-and-a-half years was a reply to you – one I hoped the OP would also read.

The specs of the phone were for the benefit of the OP. It seemed useful to include them to underline, for the OP, what an "antique in smartphone years" an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus is.
