CarPlay Audio Stops After iPhone Call in 2023 Nissan Qashqai (iOS 18.3.2)

Issue Summary:


I’ve been experiencing a persistent issue with Apple CarPlay in my 2023 Nissan Qashqai i just bought when connected via Bluetooth. After receiving and hanging up a call from an, CarPlay apps e.g spotify, apple music and even the radio completely loses audio output—even though the playback bar continues moving. This affects:

  • CarPlay apps (Spotify, Podcasts, Apple Music, etc.)
  • Radio (FM/AM stops working too). Meaning is sound is not heard
  • Any other media sources

The only way to restore sound is to pull out of the car, lock the car and get back in or manually reset the infotainment system, which is incredibly frustrating and a safety concern, especially when navigating in unknown areas.

🔹 Car Model: 2023 Nissan Qashqai


🔹 iOS Version: 18.3.2


🔹 CarPlay Connection Type: Bluetooth (wireless)


🔹 Behavior:

  • Call received from an iPhone user → Hang up → No more sound from CarPlay or any media.
  • Playback bar shows audio is playing, but no sound output
  • Issue does frequently happen after calls from Android users (audio resumes normally)

Workarounds I’ve Tried (Without Success):


✔️ Switching audio sources (e.g., FM → CarPlay) manually


✔️ Forgetting and reconnecting the car in iPhone Bluetooth settings


✔️ Force closing and reopening media apps


✔️ Turning Bluetooth off/on after a call


✔️ Changing iPhone audio routing settings (Call Audio Routing > Automatic)


Concerns & Questions:

  1. Why is this issue still happening in iOS 18.3.2 when similar complaints date back to iOS 14 (2021)?
  2. My 2023 Nissan model is listed on Apple’s "Supported Vehicles" page
  3. Is this a Nissan infotainment bug or an Apple CarPlay issue?
  4. Has anyone else with a 2023 Nissan Qashqai or a similar car experienced this?
  5. Are there any Nissan software updates that fix this?


This issue needs to be addressed, as it makes CarPlay unreliable and creates a safety risk when driving. Any advice or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

If CarPlay doesn't detect your iPhone, make sure CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. If Content & Privacy Restrictions are turned on, tap Allowed Apps and make sure CarPlay is enabled. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, and then tap Forget This Car.

Search for accessories that have completed MFi certification. Once an accessory has completed MFi certification requirements and is reported to Apple as sold/distributed, it will be searchable in our public database of authorized Lightning, headset, charging, iAP-enabled, and Find My network-enabled accessories.

On your device, go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn on Bluetooth. Stay on this screen until you've completed the steps to pair your accessory.

If you're still having trouble with your car's audio system using CarPlay or Bluetooth, try the Aux cable. To get it fixed, there are two options:


  1. Take your car to a reputable car dealer or car audio specialist. They have experienced technicians who can diagnose the problem with the Aux cable. This could be a loose connection, a faulty cable itself, or an issue with the system's Aux port. They'll be able to repair the issue or recommend a replacement cable if needed.
  2. Consult your car's infotainment system manuals. These manuals often include troubleshooting sections that might address common Aux cable problems. You might find instructions for resetting the system, cleaning the Aux port, or confirming the cable's compatibility.


Before taking your car to a dealer, it's always a good idea to check the manuals first. This can sometimes save you time and money if it's a simple fix you can handle yourself. However, if the manuals don't offer a solution, or you're uncomfortable tinkering with the system, then a car audio specialist is the way to go.
