Why can't I download free apps on my iPhone?
Why cant I download any free apps on my phone. I’m starting to think that Apple. It is just a money gimmick. It’s all they want is

What's stopping you from downloading the apps? Do you get any kind of error message?
You may be confused by the App Store wanting a payment card on file for purchases. This is to both validate your identify, verify your country (not all apps are available in all countries, and the credit card billing address is used to identify that), as well as support any future in-app purchases.
The card isn't charged for free app downloads, it's only used for verification. It does need to be on file, though, even for free downloads.
