Dust Under the Lens

I bought my iPhone two years ago, and I only started riding a scooter last year.

I usually place my phone on a mount while riding, and due to the constant vibrations, a speck of dust inside the phone seems to have been shaken onto the camera sensor.

I’ve never opened or repaired the phone before, so the dust must have been there from the beginning.

When I visited an Apple service center, the staff told me that once the warranty expires, any repair—regardless of the cause—must be paid for.

I found this confusing and frustrating. The dust was already inside the phone.

Aren’t iPhones supposed to be assembled in cleanrooms?

If this is a flaw from the factory, why should I be the one paying for it just because the warranty period has ended?

No, cellphones from any manufacturer are not assembled in clean rooms. Dust in a device is not normally an issue under normal user conditions. So, whether the dust was present during manufacture, or entered from “constant vibration” can’t be proven.

A one year warranty is just that, one year. It covers manufacturer’s defects, but for the one year limitation. Why are you paying? Because the warranty expired after one year. If you wanted longer coverage, you could have purchased Apple Care or a third party warranty from you cellular country etc.
