Why do my iPhone 14 Pro turn off while hearing voice note or during call and takes time to turn back on?

The proximity sensor on an iPhone may malfunction if the screen protector is not installed properly. The proximity sensor is located near the top of the display, usually near the earpiece speaker, and is responsible for detecting when the phone is close to your face (such as during a call) to turn off the display and prevent accidental touches.

How an Improperly Installed Screen Protector Can Cause Issues:

  1. Obstruction of the Sensor – If the screen protector covers or partially blocks the proximity sensor, it may not function correctly. This can cause the screen to remain on during calls or turn off unexpectedly.
  2. Poor Adhesion or Air Bubbles – A screen protector that is not fully adhered to the display, or has air bubbles near the sensor, can interfere with its ability to detect proximity properly.
  3. Excessive Thickness or Tinted Protectors – Some thick or privacy-tinted screen protectors may reduce the sensor's accuracy by affecting the way infrared light is transmitted.

Signs of a Proximity Sensor Issue Due to a Screen Protector:

  • The screen doesn’t turn off when holding the phone to your ear during a call.
  • The screen stays black after moving the phone away from your face.
  • Face ID (on supported models) has trouble recognizing you.

Possible Solutions:

  • Remove and reapply the screen protector, ensuring it doesn’t cover the sensor.
  • Use a high-quality, compatible screen protector designed for your iPhone model.
  • Clean the screen and sensor area to remove any dirt or residue that may be interfering.

If the issue persists even after removing the screen protector, it could indicate a hardware or software problem with the sensor.
