Why does option 1 not work when making calls on iPhone?

When making a call I am often give a set of numbered options starting with the number 1, but if I choose option one it doesn’t work, but all the other numbers do. What is the problem and can it be fixed.

It sounds like your phone's DTMF (Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency) tones—which are used to communicate keypresses during calls—are not properly sending the "1" tone, or the system you're calling is not recognizing it.

Here are some possible reasons and fixes:

  1. Your Carrier or Network Issue
    1. Some carriers may have issues with transmitting certain DTMF tones.
    2. Fix: Try calling from a different phone or switching to a different network (e.g., using Wi-Fi Calling if available).
  2. iPhone DTMF Tone Settings (if using iPhone)
    1. Apple doesn't provide an option to change DTMF tone settings, but resetting network settings can help.
    2. Fix: Go to Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset Network Settings.
