MacBook Air size of window when apps opened

Looking to change how I see emails, apps, screens when opened. Right now they are on right side and I see all opened apps on left. looking to utilize full screen as default.

How do I fix Safari’s window size issue on my MacBook Pro? When safari opens a new window it comes not in fullscreen, but a window that fills the screen. I have to drag it smaller each time because I still want access to desktop. I think the problem is in System Preferences: I've tried disabling the option to 'Drag windows to menu bar to fill screen', and quitting SP. Mail preferences screen size can't be modified; green button missing The green button is missing from the Preferences screen, so I have a very wide screen which can't be modified in size. OS 12.7. This is not a new problem.
