Home Automations and scenes does not sync to HomePod

The automations and scenes that I have created in the Home app does not sync to HomePod.

I can use the automations and scenes both from my iPhone and the Mac but there are not available to my HomePod.

I have completely removed the HomePod and added it again to my account.

I have also tried rebooting both HomePod and iPhone, additionally I have stopped the iCloud syncing for Home and reenabled it but nothing has changed.

A lot of information is missing here. What software are they (devices) running? Give an example of what HomePod won’t do. What model the HomePod is

So you have Reset HomePod and Set up again? Not just removed it? If this is a HomePod min use your Mac to restore as per instructions for resetting above.

Update all software on these devices including HomePod

If you’ve already gotten that far the best thing to do is to delete all Automations and scenes and create new ones.

When I look in my HomePod settings I don’t see my automations or scenes in there. Just in the home app, which is where I set them up. I am using the Philips Hue App to run my Hue lights as it’s far better. That is synced with Apple Home in the Hue App settings, I did that because HomeKit or home app kept messing up my colours.

I think you should submit feedback to Apple so they might consider fixing this in a future update: Feedback - HomePod - Apple. I am going to submit feedback because I feel that last software update has messed automations up. I have some HomePods automations set to play my evening apple music playlist and it keeps playing on the wrong HomePods, will not use my custom volume but last used volume (which is current) and further more it will play the wrong playlist. Sometimes they work but not daily.

ok it just popped up HomePods have an update to install. 18.4. Try that. I will as well. Other devices also need updating to 18.4 .

Hi Vancouver22,

My device is a HomePod mini running the latest software (18.3). The iPhone I use is the 15 Pro Max (running 18.3.2) and the MacBook is M1 Pro 16 (running 15.3.2). Both scenes and automations are synced between iPhone and Mac and I am able to run the automations and scenes from them with no issue at all (both manually and using Siri).

I have also deleted the automations and scenes and created them again. Still they are not appearing in the automations section of the HomePod mini. HomePod mini has been completely removed and set up again.

The issue I am having is that when I ask Siri using the HomePod to set a scene, the scene set has different colors for the lights (that is happening only using HomePod).

Also the same situation is observed when the HomePod triggers the welcome home automation.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my issue!

Hi Vancouver22,

It seems that we are facing similar issues.

After doing some research online it is clearly stated that the automations and scenes should be synced to the HomePod automatically.

I have updated all my devices to the latest software and the same behavior can be observed.

Generally the scenes section does not seem to be any stable at all. When I edit an existing scene its icon and color changes randomly, additionally the colors for the lights set are all over the place.

The update fixed my music automations but it could be one of those days where it decided to work. I did just reboot the wifi though. The coloured lights have never been any good quite frankly. I like a dimmer purplish blue tone at night for winding down. One night I went into my bedroom that’s facing the street and to my horror it was a deep red. Looked amazing but not a colour I’m going for! Good grief. So I started setting scenes and automations in the Hue app which is aways spot on.

You might also try a wifi reboot. It can take up to 20 seconds for lights to communicate the selections and if in that time there was a split second connection loss it can misread selections and do this. Wifi isn’t like Ethernet, on all the time. It might help clear glitches on the line. It’s pretty much one of my go to fixes when I troubleshoot. I hope that helps. Restarting devices after a software update is another way to fix glitches.
