“iPad Overheating While Using Apple Notes - Unresolved Despite Multiple Apple Support Contacts”

Title: “iPad Air M2 11-Inch Overheating Near Camera While Using Apple Notes - Crashes and Unresolved by Support”

I’m reaching out because I’ve been dealing with a persistent and frustrating issue with my iPad Air M2 (11-inch), which I purchased specifically for my studies. Whenever I use the Apple Notes app, even for just a few minutes, my iPad starts overheating noticeably near the camera and around that area, including the screen. The device becomes uncomfortably warm to the touch, and after some time, the Apple Notes app crashes unexpectedly. This is severely disrupting my ability to take notes and study effectively, which was the main reason I invested in this iPad.

I’ve contacted Apple Support multiple times to get this resolved, but I’ve hit a dead end. Each time, they instruct me to visit the nearest Apple Service Center. I’ve followed their advice and taken it to the center, but after checking the device, the staff there told me they couldn’t do anything because “there’s no warning alert for overheating” in their diagnostics. They refused to offer a replacement or any meaningful solution, despite the issue being clear when I use the device. This has left me stuck with a malfunctioning iPad and no support.

To make matters worse, my iPad’s warranty is set to expire in June 2025, so this is an urgent matter for me. I’m worried that if this isn’t addressed soon, I’ll be left with an expensive device that doesn’t work properly once the warranty period ends. I rely on this iPad for my education, and it’s incredibly frustrating that Apple Support and the service center aren’t acknowledging or fixing the problem. Has anyone else experienced overheating with the iPad Air M2 while using Apple Notes? How did you get Apple to take it seriously? I’d really appreciate any advice on how to escalate this or force a resolution before my warranty runs out. This needs urgent attention, and I’m hoping the community can help where Apple Support has failed me so far.

Are you using an Apple Pencil with the Scribble feature enabled?

Many anecdotal reports have been seen within this Community that have observed unexpected heating of the iPad when using the Notes App when the Scribble handwriting feature is used. Reports also indicate that disabling Scribble eliminates the increased generation of heat.

To disable Scribble from iPad settings:

Settings > Apple Pencil > Scribble - set to OFF

Your iPad will always generate some heat while it is being used - the principal sources being the CPU/GPU as the processing load increases (Scribble being a CPU-intensive process), the display (brighter screens generate more heat) and the iPad's internal battery charging circuitry.

It is not unusual for an iPad to become warm when being used - more so when using some types of iPad case. High screen brightness and/or CPU intensive Apps will also create more heat.

The key point is that whilst your iPad may become very warm in normal use, the iPad should not become uncomfortably hot to handle. If your iPad is becoming too hot to hold, you should take your iPad along to the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store - where (a) you can demonstrate the problem and (b) the technicians can examine and test your iPad for faults:

Hi, I also Have this problem with my 10th gen iPad, it constantly overheats and the notes app constantly lags and crashes, especially when I am selecting multiple things and duplicating multiple things, sometimes it will just stop responding and after a few seconds crash.

This a problem with the notes app in general, and apple most definitely already know about it, and in the latest iPadOS 18 update I have experienced significantly less bugs
