The on/off button on the upper right does not shut down the iPad

How can I set it up so pushing the top left on/off button will turn the iPad A16 gen 11 off. It was working when I set up the iPad using my old iPad but I tried the Siri feature of turning on when the on/off button was pressed, did not like it so I disabled it. Now the on/off button will do nothing when the iPad is on. I want it to turn off the iPad.

iPad, iPadOS 16

The easiest way to shut-down your iPad is from iPad settings - or from the Control Centre.

To shut-down the iPad from settings:

Settings > General > Shut Down

To shut-down the iPad from the Control Centre, simply swipe downwards from the top-right corner of the screen to expose the Control Center, the tap the Shut Down button at top-right:

Be aware that routinely shutting down your iPad is generally unnecessary - unless you don't intend to use your iPad for many days. When the iPad is locked and otherwise idle, background housekeeping tasks will be running - such as retrieving email/notifications and automatic backup of your data to iCloud. When shut down, these tasks cannot run.

Thank you for the control center shut down information. I knew about the shut down choice in the settings but my wife wants to keep things simple. She has been using Siri to shut down but I would like to disable her completely, Siri, not my wife. The top on/off button worked until I enabled Siri and the button opened Siri. I changed it so Siri does not open any more but the iPad does not shut down either. Nothing happens when the button is pushed. I would really like to get the button option back to shut down. I do not just push the button, I hold it. Thanks again for the help.
