Why does my car start playing music when I connect USB?

I have a 2012 Sienna (obviously with older hardware) and whenever I plug my phone in to USB to get sufficent audio volume/charging music starts playing. I only want it to connect for audio out of Apple Navigation. I've tried the steps other people have tried (unchecking the infinity symbol) and some of what they show doesnt exist any longer and I don't see next song up. Even if I tell Siri to stop playing music, the next song starts a minute or so later. Phone is a 13 pro max. Thanks in advance.
