How to restore complete app history on a new iPad after transferring apps from an old one?

So, my husband's older Ipad's battery was dying, i was able to transfer some apps to his new ipad. However, some of his apps don't contain the whole history now from before, i.e. his finance apps or amazon. He basically had to download them as new apps. They work but he doesn't have the old content on them, just the basic app. I looked on icloud, there was no "old" content for those apps. How could i get him the whole apps like before? Now his old ipad is dead, cannot retrieve anything. Sorry about the long text. Anita
