2021 iMac (used four times) and screen shows horizontal lines now...

Hi, I'm contacting you about my 2021 M1 iMac 24" that recently developed lines on the screen. Unfortunately, it's beyond the warranty period. I took it to the genius bar, they ran a diagnostic and can attest that the iMac was only used 3-4 times, less than an hour total in operation time.

While researching the issue, I came across numerous online reports of similar screen failures with this specific model. This suggests a potential widespread problem.

I understand your warranty policy, but I would greatly appreciate it if you could consider a one-time exception due to the documented issue. I'm a loyal Apple customer and would be happy to discuss options like a discounted repair or store credit towards a newer model.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Hi there!

First, i am very sorry that you're having problems with your new iMac, unfortunately (although this issue being very common among users) apple does not seem to take actions or even speak about the issue publicly

The problem, apparently, lies in a cable that also powers the LCD, which is located on one of the tops of the screen, and which, to be replaced, requires detaching the screen glass from the LCD itself, which is a very sensitive operation and almost impossible to carry out without damaging the LCD.

So the only option is to replace the entire LCD (LCD+main boards+screen glass).

So, what happens after a while (in this case after 3-4 uses) is that it starts to burn out and degrade at the connector, to the point where it lets the signals leak between the various connectors and short-circuits some of them, which ends up causing those lines that we are all unfortunately familiar with.

The level of brightness makes a fundamental contribution to this problem. Thus, the higher the brightness used, the sooner the problem occurs.

Unfortunately, we cannot do anything to replace your iMac but you can try Contacting Apple again, and hope they will do something about your issue, and let me know if you have any questions :)

Kind regards.

Applefan408,

Hi, it appear you are attempting to contact Apple on the user to user forums. Apple is the forum hosts however they DO NOT read or participate in these forums. If you have feedback for Apple, please leave it at www.apple.com/feedback.

You iMac should be taken to the local Apple Authorized Service Provider you prefer, they will quote you a repair figure and then it is up to you how to proceed.

IF you decide to pay for an out-of-pocket repair and Apple initiates a repair program you would be eligible for a refund from Apple. However at this date, Apple has not instituted a repair program so there is no guarantee.

Yes, on these forums we have seen a number of threads appear on the same screen repair issue on some 2021 24" iMacs there is really nothing other users can do to assist other than to provide some advice on how to proceed. Another avenue you may want to explore is calling AppleCare and request to speak to a customer advocate. When you do, have all of your receipts and dates and times in order. If you do not know AppleCare's phone number, in the USA it is 800-275-2273. If you are located outside the USA please click the following link to find the phone number that services your area. AppleCare Contact Info

Best of luck!
