What are some free, reliable ways you can play Windows Steam games on MacOS?

I have been using the Whisky app, however since it is no longer being updated, you need an old version of the Steam client and many games do not work reliably or not at all. I have heard of Parallels and CrossOver but they seem expensive and I can't really justify paying for them since I currently have low disposable income.

From my research, I have come across Porting kit and VMware Fusion which seem like good free ways to play windows Steam games on Mac, however I am not sure if they are safe to use or not.

I am using a M2 Pro MacBook Pro 14 inch with 16GB of ram with MacOS Sequoia.

The Windows games I will be playing will be Rain World and Webbed from the Steam client.
