Can I still use AppleCare for a discontinued iPhone SE?

I bought a new iPhone SE 2nd gen a couple months ago, I got the Apple care and theft on monthly payments.

As I was looking to replace the wifes phone with the same phone as mine, I found out these phones are discontinued.

So, what happens to Apple Care now that they have dropped my new iPhone SE 2nd gen?

Confirm that you No Longer are Paying for this:

If you no longer have AppleCare with this, then you should expect not to be charged. Go here, and find out if it is covered under AppleCare: Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support. Log in with the same Apple Account assigned to this device. If you never cancelled it, then expect the charge.

Yes, I have current coverage on this phone. iPhone SE was available through the Apple Store in January, had one in my bag to buy for my wife. Apple shows I still have full coverage, accident, theft and loss, hardware service, express replacement, and 24/7 priority access.

Note:

Your wife should have her own Apple Account; you should never share an Apple Account amongst one another.

So,…

Transfer this, as if you were to Sell it:

Your only option would be to transfer YOUR iPhone to your wife’s Apple Account, as if you were to sell it. So, reset this to factory settings by signing out of iCloud. Once reset, transfer the AppleCare to her Apple Account as the new owner of it. Once transferred, she can then use Quick Start to transfer her old phone to this iPhone of hers.

Once Transferred —Get a New iPhone:

But, if you go about purchasing a new iPhone, Apple’s not going to sell you a discontinued model. So, she’ll have the model she desires, but you’re just not going to have the option of having same model as this one you gave her.

The iPhone SE 2 was discontinued in March 2022, three years ago. There is no way you bought a new one two months ago, nor would you have been able to purchase AppleCare+ on it.

You most likely purchased an iPhone 16e which is the new equivalent of the SE models.

Go to Settings>General>About and look at what you really have.

My first was bought in 2023 from the Apple Store, the new one was warranted by Apple January this year. Yes I purchased Apple Care+ with theft and loss January this year.

SE 2nd gen was introduced in 2022. Was still available for purchase in Apple Store in January this year, had one in my bag to buy for wife’s birthday this month.

I stand corrected, SE2 introduced 2020, SE3 2022. But SE2 was still available for sale up to January 2025.

Just got off chat with Apple.

Also indicated till Apple ends my Apple Care+ with theft and loss contract, phone is covered till they can no longer offer replacements. At which time, they will stop charging me the monthly fee.

My replacement phone IS an SE3, not a SE2 like the one that was originally purchased.

Thank you

She decided to just keep her old iPhone 6S, she refuses to pay Apples ransom for a new one. As long as Apple Care will still honor the agreement on my phone, I'm good.

Upgrade Soon:

Her iPhone is ancient. AppleCare or not, she is not going to get security updates for here iOS. Without bug fixes, she’s more vulnerable to insecurity such as Find My disabling. Go here, just to make sure that it IS covered by AppleCare on it: https://mysupport.apple.com/Select her phone, and look for a red rectangle on the bottom right corner of it,

She only uses for calls, texts, mail, alarm clock, and the weather. She said, not worth spending that much money for that.

She's been without updates for several years, no issues with phone, save I put an aftermarket battery in it a few years ago.

Only issues, I can't use the apps I use on it. But she's happy with it.
