Copying URL from website to pages

I have gone to the website and copied the url and pasted it into pages —but it doesn’t come up as a link—-its just like any other copy and paste—(its not blue and underlined). I select it in pages and it doesn’t go anywhere.

please help. Thank you

Pages has no inherent knowledge of web styling or content and will paste copied URLs just like MS Word, as plain text. Select that plain text URL content and press cmd+K to change the plain text to an active URL. The default link attribute in Pages is black, not the blue you would expect on a website.
