Will deleting iCloud photos also remove them from my iPhone camera roll?

Hi! I’m cleaning out my iCloud storage, but there are some photos I want saved on my phone. If I delete some iCloud photos, will they also delete from my camera roll? I’ve tested this out and the photo seemed to stay on my phone camera roll.
