WhatsApp end of support of iOS 12 - How to swap all data between iPhone 5S and iPhone 7?

If not, how shoudl I proceed? Will iCloud backup (and restore) work and allow WhatsApp to update and resume normal operation on the iPhone 7?

I believe whatsapp might have its own separate backup in the cloud, you may need to enable it.

But whatsapp support can confirm that, contact them.

You will be able to restore the backup from the older phone to the newer phone. However, you will not be able to restore the backup from the newer phone to the older one.
