Error contacting the Apple ID Server

Changed password die to it being compromised online. iPhone and all computers except one Mac Mini seemed to update fine. On that computer, I received a notification to “Update Apple ID Settings”, which when I clicked on “Continue”, opened a window to enter the password. When I did that and hit “Next”, I received a notification “There was an error connecting to the Apple ID server”. Three other computer and two iPhones had no issue. FYI, mini shows connected to the WiFi.

I have no VPNs. Got any other thoughts?

Troubleshooting “There was an error connecting to the Apple ID server”.:

Well, your other devices are connecting just fine: so, that means there is just a synchronization issue between your computer and Apple’s server.

So, try the following:

  • Try a New User:

For troubleshooting purposes, create a new administrator user, and see if you still get this error. If so, it is an issue with you current user. If not, then it is an issue with your entire Mac. Just log back into your original macOS user account, and trash the one you’ve just created. IMPORTANT: Create a Time Machine of your Mac prior to performing this. That way, you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the creation.

  • Remove Security Software:

Use an uninstaller, if applicable.

  • Change your Apple Account Password:

  • Reinstall the macOS:

Fix a few bugs here and about. Doing so would place thing to where they should be, and would replace damaged system files to how they should be, IMPORTANT: Create a Time Machine of your Mac prior to performing this. That way, you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the reinstall.

Turn Off All VPNs:

Have any VPNs enabled on your Mac? If so, turn it off, trying this, once more.
