How to exclude specific apps from screen time reporting on iPhone?

How to exclude certain apps from screen time reporting? e.g. I drive a lot and use waze/maps. They shouldn’t practically be counted towards my screen time. Or some baby monitor apps which keeps the screen on but you rarely look at screen constantly.

I think the confusion is that you can restrict if an app can be used at all, so then it will not appear in Screen Time. That is not what you are attempting to accomplish by not showing the Waze/Maps or Baby Monitor app that you are currently using.

Even though you are not looking at the screen, they are currently running, so their use is being recorded in Screen Time. You cannot exclude apps from reporting their usage, you can only prevent an app from being used.

Another example would be for listening to Music, where it would report how much time is spent listening to Music, not just when you are looking on the screen.

You can send feedback to Apple here if you think there should be an option to exclude it's reporting to Screen Time while it is currently running on your phone.

No, you can't.

Screen Time reporting is governed by the Screen Time restriction settings that are configured on the device. The reports generated reflect the usage data based on those settings, and they cannot be modified beyond the restrictions already set.

For example:

  • If certain apps or categories are restricted or excluded from reporting, they will not appear in the Screen Time summary.
  • If Screen Time tracking is disabled for specific apps, their usage will not be recorded or displayed.
  • Parental controls and content restrictions may further limit what is tracked and reported.

Users can view and analyze the reports within the scope of the enabled restrictions, but they cannot manually edit or override the recorded data.

The bullet points are contradictory to your initial "No" response. Without such functionality following bullet points do not make sense.

  • If certain apps or categories are restricted or excluded from reporting...
  • If Screen Time tracking is disabled for specific apps...

Such statements implies there IS a functionality in place... which is confusing.
