Corrupted files after transfer?

I have this problem every time I switch phones. Last night I transfered my Iphone XS Max to my mother’s old Iphone 12 Pro. I did a phone to phone transfer. I dont use iCloud or iTunes, I like to keep my data on phone only.

All is well except some of my videos and gifs in the album having exclamation marks saying “Unable to load video. An error occured while loading a higher quality version of this video.”

When I hook the phone to my pc and try to open those files, I get errors as if they are corrupted files. They open fine in the old phone’s files.

What should I do? It wont let me copy-paste between phones on pc. All solutions I see on internet presume iCloud is being used.

Microsoft support says --> Import photos and videos from an iPhone to PC

If the corrupted file is not a video recorded using the iOS Camera app, consider whether it was imported or downloaded from another source. Videos obtained from third-party apps, cloud services, or external devices may sometimes have compatibility issues or become corrupted during transfer.

The error message "Unable to load video. An error occurred while loading a higher quality version of this video." typically appears for photos and videos synced to iCloud. This occurs when your iPhone is trying to access the high-resolution version stored in iCloud, but there isn’t enough local storage available to download it. If your device is running low on space, iOS may only keep a lower-quality preview of the file, preventing full access to the original version.

To resolve this, you can try the following:

  1. Check iCloud Storage Settings: Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Photos and check if Optimize iPhone Storage is enabled. If so, your device may be keeping only compressed versions of your media.
  2. Free Up Space: Ensure your iPhone has sufficient storage by deleting unnecessary files or apps.
  3. Try Downloading the Video Manually: Open the Photos app, find the affected video, and tap the Download icon (cloud with a downward arrow) if available.
  4. Check iCloud Sync Status: Sometimes, syncing issues with iCloud can cause this error. Try toggling iCloud Photos off and back on, but be cautious as this may remove photos from your device if they haven’t fully synced.

If the issue persists, consider checking for software updates or attempting to access the video from another Apple device or iCloud.com.
