Why is a yellow dot showing on my iPhone?

Take a screenshot on your iPhone by pressing and releasing the Volume Up Button and Power Button. Then, turn your iPhone's screen orientation and view the screenshot. Make sure Screen-Orientation Lock is turned off first, you can swipe down from the top right to open Control Center, then make sure the rotation icon with a lock in the center is white and not red.

If the dot appears in the screenshot, it would be a software issue. If the dot doesn't appear in the screenshot, it would be a hardware issue.

If it is a software issue, please perform a Forced Restart. This will delete any corrupt software files. Be sure to perform it quickly and ignore the Power Off Slider that appears midway.

• Press and quickly release the Volume Up Button
• Press and quickly release the Volume Down Button
• Press and hold the Side Button until you see the Apple Logo

If this is a hardware issue, please make a reservation at your nearest Apple Store's Genius Bar or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for service.

With iOS 14 and later, you might see an orange or green indicator in the status bar on your iPhone. These indicators appear when the microphone and/or camera are being used by an app.

An orange indicator means the microphone is being used by an app on your iPhone. Perhaps this is what you’re seeing? If not the Apple article above is always helpful.

I have the same orange microphone light on my 12 mini that won’t go away. I’ve checked all my apps in the privacy and security turned off the microphone rebooted twice still there. I haven’t done the screenshot yet.

Update, screenshot still shows the microphone light.

I appreciate your clarification that it is the microphone indicator. If you swipe down from the top right to open the Control Center, what app does it say is using the microphone?
