Sequoia 15.4 - Automatically changes OS installation settings

Just d/l and installed Sequoia 15.4. On startup, greeted by welcome screen advising me that from now on ALL future software updates, beta updates, application updates and system files would be automatically downloaded and installed as they're released.

Not for me!

I was able to undo this most unwelcome change, but I should never have had to do so - why were my previous settings ignored?

Just updated myself and received the same message. Got the same message after updating my iPhone 16 Pro to iOS 18.4. Apple is pretty aggressive in making sure users are up to date. I understand there are 50 security issues patched in the latest updates. In my case, however, Beta installs were still off.

Same for me - iPhone and iPad both set to automatically update all software after this morning's iOS update. Ditto my MB Air and MB Pro - all set to 'automatic' rather than what I had set.

have switched them all off so that I decide when updates installed.

I will give Apple the benefit of the doubt in that a substantial number of users have no clue about keeping their devices up to date. By making autoupdating the default it’s likely more users will be safer from security and privacy issue.

More experienced users already know how to turn autoupdating off.
