FCPX CRASHES WHEN OPENING PROJECT

Hi everyone, I've been having this problem for years continuously, FCPX crashes when I open a library with just one project in it, it seems to get corrupted and also corrupts all the event backups, any one I open closes instantly, I'm fed up, it always makes me start my projects from 0, any idea how to fix it? I've tried the basics of deleting preferences blah blah blah, even deleting the CurrentVersion.flexolibrary file and nothing seems to work, Apple please take this issue seriously as I'm not the only one who has been experiencing this for many years now

What versions of macOS and FCP? Where are the media and libraries stored? How are the drives formatted?

Often these are related or caused by other stuff that ond has installed, like cleaners, antivirus, and more. Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here.

Use the “additional text” button and paste the report into the text box.

One cause for concern is the low free space on the system drive.

Only 48GB free, in spite of a lot more "available"... sadly, macOS often has trouble because the "available" space is not made free in a timely fashion.

I see two 5TB drives, one of which with only about 600GB free (which is only about 12%). It may seem like a lot, but you should strive for at least 15% free space.

You have this sandisk drive software. Third party drive manufacturer software is unneeded and known to at times cause problems.

You have NVIDIA software - why? Your mac does not have any NVIDIA graphics cards.

This suggests to me that this has been brought along from previous macs, perhaps for over a decade or so (that was about the last time a Mac had an NVIDIA graphics card in it).

Oh DEAR, oh dear, oh dear!!!

And you have that bane of any mac, the "cleanmymac" software (which is often and with good reason referred to as "brickmymac").

I will just stop here. You need to absolutely get rid of this if you want a sane functional mac.

I strongly recommend that you make a full backup, then do "Erase All Content and Settings", which will leave only the clean OS, and then migrate ONLY the user accounts and nothing else.

How can I remove all residue from CleanMyMac? I had already uninstalled it before, I don't have the app, I don't want to delete everything from scratch.

With all the cruft that you have been accumulating for what appears to be over a decade, you will be glad with the results if you DO start from scratch.

It is nowhere near as painful as you might think.

1) Full backup using Time Machine; if possible, a second backup 2) System Settings->General->Transfer or Reset->Erase All Content and Settings This will leave only the OS itself, and erase all system modifications as well as all accounts, so you did do the backup beforehand, right? 3) When asked, choose to migrate from "another mac, drive or Time Machine backup"; select the TM backup drive used in step 1 4) Select to migrate ONLY the user accounts (no applications, settings or other files - otherwise you'd just be back to where you started) 5) Enjoy a properly working mac. Gradually install the applications that you do need. Never install any "cleaners" or "antivirus".

Steps 1 to 4 make take altogether perhaps an hour (depending on how much data you have on your account).

Then you can gradually install the applications from the app store or the respective web sites.

This may take a while (of course you need not do it all at once), but you will finally experience your mac the way it is supposed to work - fast and stable.

Is there any way to format it but still have all my FCPX titles, effects, and transitions backed up? Some of these can't be installed by just copying and pasting them into folders, so that's why I'm asking. I'd like to format it but then have them transferred back to me the same way I have them when I restart.

I never recommended to format. The “Erase All Content and Settings” does not format the drive.

FIRST you need to have a Time Machine BACKUP.

Once you migrate your account from this backup, as explained, templates that were in your Motion Templates will be there as before. Applications like FCP will need to be downloaded from the App Store. Things that require an installer may or may not need to be installed again- it depends on where they install their wares.
