Why is my iPhone battery draining fast after iOS 18.4 update?

To be honest you always say the same stuff every new update of apple and people complaining.

its this time a real issue, so like apple needs to fix this so please stop using the same pr bs and start sorting out how we can fix this THANKS!

I need to charge twice a day

Usually I charge my iPad Pro M2 11" every 3 days and there's still remaining battery. But last night after the 18.4 iPadOS update, I just found that my iPad battery drains so fast. At 1 PM I just charged the device up to 50%. Five hours later it's only 10% battery power left. Wow.

I think there's a bug on the update since I'm rarely use my iPad. Please, fix it ASAP with the new update, dear Apple.

Troubleshooting iPhone Battery Draining After an Update:

A. Battery Drain Info:

The iPhone battery will drain, unless it is plugged in and charging. With lots installed, the charge would be slower. As for how fast it would drain the battery, that would depend on the battery health and the volume (sound) you use. Apple recommends you get a new battery when the Battery Health reaches below 89%. So, see if it’s time for a new battery.

1. Go Here: iPhone Battery and Performance - Apple Support
2. Scroll Down: to "Your battery's maximum capacity"

B. Verify the Baterry Health Percentage:

Apple recommends you get a new battery, once the Battery Health reaches 80% or lower. When the Battery Health is 80% or lower, it is time for a new battery. Unfortunately, these if no way to know how, nor when, then percentage decrease occurred. So see if it tine for a new battery...

1. Go To: Settings
2. Tap: Battery
3. Tap: Battery Health
4. View: [the percentage]
5. Is it 80% or less?  If so, it is time for a new battery.

D. Report this to Apple:

Do your Part: This seems to be a commonly reported bug in these forums. Question is: "How many people have let Apple know about this bug?"  Apple wont get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what bugs are occurring, and what needs to be fixed. Apple will know nothing of your issue, if you don’t report it to them.

Giving Feedback:

1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
3. Comment on: That this all started after installing an update. Include the URL of this thread.
4. Proceed From there as necessary

It was the mail app for me running in the background consistently even with background app refresh off. It was showing an hour by hour usage in the background ( thats a full hour of working in the background and minutes on the screen ) when it should be minutes in the background. The only fix I’ve found after a fresh install of iOS ( this didn’t work ) was to delete the mail app and use a different mail app and this is now working correctly with minutes in the background. This isn’t because of it’s “an update so the iPhone will be configuring in the background and power and thermal performance might be affected” this was something else. Oh and my iPad doesn’t have any issue at all.

After an update, your iPhone must work extra hard to run additional background tasks. Some of these include indexing which is sorting all your data on the new software and moving features to the right places. Which you can experience an increased battery drain. When the tasks are fully complete, which usually takes a few days to a week, your iPhone will return to normal conditions.

Mine also and my ipad does the same

Deleting the mail app was the only solution so far for me too. Mail was working in the background even when I switched on the battery saving mode. Disabling AI was also not helpful.

You post is vague —and with vague post, don’t expect a detective-like answer. What you are reporting is an all to common phenomenon on these forums.

So, how have you troubleshot this thus far?

Same! I came here to see if anyone else noticed a substantial difference within the last few weeks. My iPhone 15, with background app activity turned off and location turned off, has been sitting at 20% lately after using a few apps off and on for the first part of the day. 🙋🏼‍♀️

That is because the same thing is supposed to happen after every update. The phone is reindexing files and usually updates the algorithms for identifying objects in photos. All this happens in the background while you can continue to use your device. The alternative is to make your device unusable and require it to be plugged into power while it completes, and I am sure you would see far more complaints.
